I've always heard 2 things are true Death & Taxes****Can anyone figure out medical insurance or the lack there of???**What is covered and what isn't**what is pre-existing and what isn't***by the time you reach my age, Everything is pre-existing (HAHA)

Thats like all these folks protesting the health care plan.There isn't even one yet.Nothing much but rumors.I'll wait till a comprehensive plan is put forth,and decide which way to go..

I just got off the phone with Polk County tax collector,and found out that those of us 65 or older are eligible for an extra $25,000 dollar homestead exemption if our adjusted gross income is less than $25,873.00 per year.Social security is not counted in the A.G.I. ..Talked to a sweet gal named Michelle,and she is sending me the paperwork today,or it can be found on the internet..The cut-off date for this year is Sept 14th..Pass it on..

Just got this year's estimated trim notice! Looks like our property values have halved again.! This is great news as far as taxes are concerned if you plan to stay a while. If you were planning on selling though, this is going to make it that much harder. If you are unfortunate though to be behind in your mortgage payments, this is going to make it really hard to arrange a short sale, as values will probably be well below now what is owed!!! As a result if the value dropped below 50K you will lose the extra $25K homestead exemption from the 2008 property tax reform act. Even so, your taxes will be significantly lower.

I can't see how the counties can go on this way, without cutting necessary services like Fire, Sheriff/Police and School budgets even further! I don't know about you, but I would gladly pay the the same tax I did last year to prevent the loss of these services anymore then they already are, and preferably restore what we lost already from the cuts last year.
